Dear Friends and Families,
This is the time of year for hope and anticipation as we await and celebrate the birth of Jesus. Advent calls us to quiet our hearts and re-focus on family and faith. Our patron John the Baptist prepared the way of the Lord with his life and preaching, during Advent we “prepare the way of the Lord” into our hearts. This has been a difficult year; however, we have grown closer and stronger through tragedy. I am thankful for living in such a wonderful place, we have a blessed community. The words of the angels to the shepherds resonate, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”
During these Holy Days filled with family and friends, I invite you to join St. Johns in celebrating Christmas, the season of love, joy and peace. On behalf of Fr. Peter and our wonderful staff of our parish and school I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION MASS
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception celebrates the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is celebrated on December 8, nine months before the feast of the Nativity of Mary, September 8. It is an important Marian feast and celebrated worldwide. The feast was first solemnized as a Holy Day of obligation on 6 December 1708. We will have mass 9am in English and 7pm in Spanish.
NOVENA FOR OUR LADY of GUADALUPE
Monday we begin the novena for Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration on December 12. We will have rosary at 6:30pm every evening in the church and mass following.
No Mass Monday-Thursday
This week there are diocesan meetings in Ukiah for all the priests. I will not be attending because of a family wedding next weekend; however, there will be no weekday masses this week from Mon-Thurs. Fr. Peter will be here for mass on Friday and available for emergency and sick calls.
Going To Europe
Both Deacon Malcom and I are traveling to Europe this week, I to a family wedding in Greece and Malcom on his first trip to Europe. Malcom has been planning this trip for a couple of years, so it is my fault that we will both be gone at the same time; however, we are leaving you in capable hands.
Welcome Fr. Gary Lombardi Next Weekend
Fr. Gary, who was ordained at St John’s in 1969, will be covering all the masses next weekend. Fr. Gary is a good friend; I was his associate for 3 years at St. Vincent’s, he loves this parish and is looking forward to being back in the place of his 1st assignment.
